Beth Leahy is a realist painter inspired by the traditional methods of the Dutch Masters
of the 16th Century. Beth uses oil as her medium and ordinary objects as her subject matter. As a still life and portrait
painter, Beth works directly from life.
The
Dutch Masters used a very disciplined approach to their work. A painting began with a drawing and value study. Once the value
study was completed and underpainting was applied, many layers of glazed color were added to create the illusion of three
dimensional objects. Beth values the techniques of the Dutch Masters and continues to use their traditional methods. Her passions
are painting and teaching.
